When configuring an ultralight manual wheelchair, significant time and consideration is spent on the base. Components/accessories are necessities of the seating system to complete the configuration.  Selection of basic “no charge” components is often the norm. As professionals, we must educate clients and caregivers on the advantages and disadvantages of each selected component, including upgraded options, creating an understanding of how these components contribute to overall function and satisfaction. We will review different rear wheel, tyre and hand rim options, as well as evidence related to rolling resistance with different combinations.
